  • Crash on startup ("Crash in progress")

  • Application unable to start (0xc0000005)

    After Effects error: The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005) — a Windows access-violation error on launch.

  • Out of memory / Unable to allocate memory

    Repeated Out of memory / Unable to allocate memory pop-ups during RAM preview or render; memory fills until AE crashes.

  • GPU / Graphics Driver issue (black screen)

  • GPU Effects Error — "GPU is out of memory"

    After Effects has encountered a failure related to GPU-enabled effects on this frame. This is likely because your GPU is out of memory.

  • AE crashes partway through a render

    AE closes unexpectedly partway through a render, with no specific error text.

  • Output module failed (render write error)

    After Effects error: Rendering error while writing to file ... An output module failed. The file may be damaged or corrupted. (-1610153464)

  • Missing footage / media offline

  • DynamicLinkManager crash on startup

    AE crashes at launch with a crash log referencing <DynamicLink> ... dynamiclinkmanager.exe.

  • Error 21::31 — "preferences file is not valid"

    preferences file is not valid (21::31) on launch — usually follows an abrupt shutdown of AE.

  • Error 17::17 — "zero denominator in ratio multiply"

    After Effects error: zero denominator in ratio multiply ( 17 :: 17 ) — usually during preview/render, sometimes looping into an unrecoverable error storm.

  • Cinema 4D version mismatch (PF_Cmd_SEQUENCE_SETUP)

    This version of AE requires an installation of Cinema 4D R24 (24.111 or later) — appears on every launch, across AE 23–26.

  • Element 3D — "failed to initialize OpenGL"

    Element failed to initialize OpenGL. Please ensure your GPU drivers are up to date & that your GPU is compatible.

  • Sapphire plugin crash / red screen

    After Effects error: crash occurred while invoking effect plug-in (Sapphire) — AE crashes or shows a red screen adding/rendering a Sapphire effect.

  • Magic Bullet Looks (MBL) shows "unlicensed"

    The plugin overlay shows a license warning (unlicensed) even though it’s installed and was previously activated.
