GPU Effects Error — "GPU is out of memory"

The error

"After Effects has encountered a failure related to GPU-enabled effects on this frame. This is likely because your GPU is out of memory."

Why this happens

Mercury GPU acceleration ran out of video memory while rendering GPU-heavy effects — most often 3D, VR, or ray-traced effects at high resolution.

How to fix it

  1. Update your GPU drivers (NVIDIA / AMD / Intel) to the latest version.
  2. Lower the composition / preview resolution before working with GPU-heavy effects.
  3. Fallback: File → Project Settings → Video Rendering and Effects → set Renderer to "Mercury Software Only".
