Output module failed (render write error)

The error

"After Effects error: Rendering error while writing to file ... An output module failed. The file may be damaged or corrupted. (-1610153464)"

Why this happens

A QuickTime/codec conflict, a full or locked output drive, permissions issues, or another app holding the QT port.

How to fix it

  1. Render via Adobe Media Encoder, or export H.264 in an .MP4 wrapper instead of QuickTime .MOV.
  2. Render to an image sequence (PNG/TIFF) as a bulletproof fallback.
  3. Edit > Purge > All Memory & Disk Cache; check the output drive has space and write permissions.
