Application unable to start (0xc0000005)

The error

"After Effects error: The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005)" — a Windows access-violation error on launch.

Why this happens

A corrupt or out-of-date GPU driver.

How to fix it

  1. Remove the current driver with DDU for a clean uninstall.
  2. Install the latest NVIDIA/AMD/Intel Studio or Game Ready driver.
